The Rangers Have Reportedly Inquired About J.T. Miller

The New York Rangers are looking to acquire a big-time player.

According to The Athletic, the Rangers have inquired about Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller.

“A league source said the Rangers recently inquired with the Canucks about J.T. Miller, who is currently on an indefinite leave of absence,” Arthur Staple and Peter Baugh of The Athletic wrote. “Miller was a 2011 first-round pick by the Rangers and has been coveted by Drury before — the Rangers were after Miller before the 2021-22 trade deadline, but wouldn’t include Braden Schneider in a deal. Miller then signed a seven-year extension worth $8-million a year, pulling him off the market.”

Miller took an indefinite leave from the Canucks on Nov. 19 due to personal reasons and has not played since.

“Right now, our sole focus is making sure that J.T. knows the entire organization is here to support him,” Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said in a statement.

Rangers general manager Chris Drury is reportedly interested in making moves and shaking up their roster and trading for Miller would certainly fit the bill.

Miller had a career year last season as he recorded 37 goals, 66 assists and 103 points in 81 games.

The veteran forward was drafted by the Rangers back in 2011 and he played six seasons in New York before being traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
