With the spring game slowly but surely approaching, Deion Sanders has no choice but to revamp his coaching staff at Colorado.
After leading Colorado to a 9-4 record and Alamo Bowl appearance in 2024, Sanders was considered a star on the rise in the coaching ranks. Unfortunately for the Hall of Famer, he finished the 2025 season with a 3-9 record, which includes just one win against Big 12 opponents.

Despite the team’s shortcomings, Sanders didn’t make massive changes to Colorado’s staff immediately after the 2025 season ended. In a surprising turn of events though, he lost two key assistants this week.
Colorado’s defensive coordinator, Robert Livingston, has agreed to become the defensive pass game coordinator for the Denver Broncos. Now that he’s out, Sanders is expected to promote linebackers coach Chris Marve to defensive coordinator.

Roughly 24 hours after Livingston agreed to join the Broncos, it was reported by Brian Howell of Buffzone that pass rush coordinator Warren Sapp is also leaving Colorado’s staff. This move was later confirmed by the team.

“Warren Sapp has resigned from the CU football coaching staff to pursue other opportunities,” the university said in a statement. “CU Athletics thanks Warren for his contributions to our football program over the last two seasons and for his commitment to our student-athletes.”
Will this be Deion’s last year at Colorado?
Fans are convinced these changes to Colorado’s staff point to Sanders leaving the university after the 2026 season.
“This love story with Deion & Shedeur is now crashing down. Livingston was the highest paid assistant coach in Colorado football history at $2 million. Now, he’s the DPGC,” one fan wrote.

“This is Deion’s last year at Colorado Respect him for going down with the ship and not resigning tho,” a social media user commented.
“Is this a hint at Deion getting back into television soon? I saw rumblings of him potentially taking over for collinsworth once his deal expires in 2027,” a fan wrote.
“Is it weird for all of this to be happening now? Not sure the cycles of all of this coach movement but it feels late,” another fan said.
Sanders told Colorado fans last November that he’d do everything in his power to get the program back on track.

“If anybody’s built to reconcile and to get this back on course it’s me,” Sanders said. “And I will do it if it’s the last thing I do on our Earth. Trust me when I tell you. This was the Last Supper.”
We’ll find out this fall if Coach Prime has what it takes to revitalize Colorado’s football team for a second time.
