Three stars from Iowa women’s basketball win at Nebraska

by

Iowa women’s basketball (17-7, 7-6 Big Ten) continued their recent string of superb play on Monday night with a dominating performance in an 81-66 victory vs. Nebraska (16-8, 7-6) from Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb.

As a team, the Hawkeyes shot 30-for-63 (47.6%) from the field, 12-for-24 (50%) from beyond the arc, and 9-for-14 (64.3%) from the charity stripe. Iowa also controlled the point production from the paint by widely outscoring Nebraska 34-18.

Defensively, Iowa forced 15 turnovers, including five steals and one block. While Nebraska shot 18-for-40 (45%) from the field, more than a third of their offense came from the free-throw line, where they converted 23-of-29 (79.3%) opportunities.

With the Hawkeyes securing a fifth consecutive victory Monday night, here are the three stars that made the most impact.

Lucy Olsen

Olsen was a beast against the Cornhuskers Monday night by leading the team with 32 points off 12-for-20 (60%) from the floor, 4-for-7 (57.1%) from deep, and 4-for-8 (50%) from the charity stripe in a full 40 minutes played.

In addition to her offensive contributions, Olsen registered seven assists and six rebounds to round out her impressive night.

During the Hawkeyes’ current five-game winning streak, Olsen has averaged 22 points per game on 54.7% from the floor, 47.6% from deep, and 72% from the free-throw line.

Taylor McCabe

McCabe was once again lethal for the Hawkeyes from long-range as she shot 5-of-7 (71.4%) from beyond the arc while converting on 2-of-2 (100%) attempts from the charity stripe for 17 points in 31 minutes.

While McCabe has been used almost exclusively for her three-point marksmanship, her ability to hit big shots when the Hawkeyes need them has been critical in the team’s last five games.

Sydney Affolter

After a stellar performance against Minnesota on Friday, Affolter once again shined on Monday night by scoring 13 points off 4-for-6 (66.7%) from the floor, 3-for-3 (100%) from deep, and 2-for-3 (66.7%) from the free-throw line in 29 minutes of action.

Affolter also registered four assists, two rebounds, one block, and one steal to close out her performance.

Affolter has been a very impactful player for the Hawkeyes lately, scoring double-digits in four of the team’s last five games.

Iowa will return home to Carver-Hawkeye Arena for their next match vs. Rutgers (10-14, 2-11) on Thursday night.

Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on Big Ten Network Plus (BTN+, Subscription required).
