Tidjane Salaun returned to NBA Summer League looking to strengthen his case for a bigger role in the Charlotte Hornets’ rotation ahead of the 2025-26 season.
After being selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Salaun is continuing his development as Charlotte’s coaching staff evaluates where he fits within the team’s revamped lineup.
According to The Charlotte Observer, the Hornets have identified several key areas they want the 19-year-old forward to improve before the regular season begins.
Summer League coach Blaine Mueller pointed to Salaun’s defensive growth but emphasized there is still work to be done.
“Executing his role defensively,” Mueller said. “I think he’s made great strides with his one-on-one defense. Continuing to look for him to improve in terms of his coverage execution and understanding what we’re in and whether he’s on the ball or on the screener.”
On the offensive end, Charlotte wants Salaun to make quicker decisions and avoid overcomplicating possessions when defenders close out on him.
“And then offensively, keep it simple,” Mueller added. “Closeout reads, after actions, being quicker into those when he doesn’t have shot, drive, or pass against closeouts.”
