The Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx officially announced the hiring of Michael Dillon as the organization’s new Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer.
Dillon joins the franchise after serving as CFO of the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he helped oversee the team’s financial and operational strategy.
The organization highlighted his experience in finance, analytics, technology, and business growth as key reasons behind the hire.
“Mike’s arrival comes at a pivotal time for our organization as we continue to elevate our operations and build for sustained success,” said CEO Matthew Caldwell.
“He is a dynamic, forward-thinking executive whose breadth of experience and strategic mindset will strengthen our leadership team and help position us for the future.”
Before joining Pittsburgh, Dillon spent eight years with the Houston Astros organization, eventually becoming Vice President of Business Strategy and Analytics.
He also founded the sports ticketing platform SimpleSeats.com.
Earlier in his career, Dillon worked as a consultant for Bain & Company, advising clients on growth strategy, mergers, acquisitions, and corporate planning.
With the Timberwolves and Lynx, Dillon will oversee departments including finance, facilities, IT, and business strategy as the organization continues modernizing its operations.
Dillon earned a JD/MBA from Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School, along with a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University.
