Tom Izzo and his Michigan State basketball program have a long, well-documented history with Louisville. However, most of that history occurred under the administration of coaching legend Rick Pitino, who is now at St. John’s. Louisville basketball is now manned by Pat Kelsey, who will lead the No. 6-seeded Cardinals in their match-up on Saturday against the Spartans.
On Friday, Tom Izzo previewed the match-up, and you can find his comments below:

“One of my first games against Louisville was they were celebrating the 75th anniversary of their championship. They beat us by 100, might have been less.”
-
“Another day, another tough prep. Pat has done a great job with Louisville. They have good depth.”
-
“I’m excited every time you move into a game in the NCAA Tournament. Some teams went down, other teams almost went down but looks like they are going to get through it.”
-
“Pat has done a really good job with the program. I do not see that program (Louisville) dipping much in the future.”
-
When asked how Michigan State would try to slow down Louisville’s guards, Izzo said: “Tackle them.”
-
“Denham Wojcik didn’t come here because of his dad. I have been so impressed with what he’s done. Going to Harvard, graduating from Harvard, coming here, battling through so many injuries. The kid has great heart, he is as good of a defender as we got on the team.”
-
“The Denham Wojciks of the world maybe don’t win you every game, but they win you more games than you realize.”
