It’s officially opening day for the Michigan State football program, as the Spartans took the field for the opening of their summer training camp. Of course, MSU football superfan and head coach of the Spartans’ basketball team, Tom Izzo, was there on day one.
Michigan State beat reporter Matt Wenzel snapped a picture shortly after practice opened up of Tom Izzo talking to MSU football head coach Jonathan Smith. Izzo has been a support of Smith’s all the way back to the hiring process and has supported him throughout his early tenure.

The Spartans will have a month to prepare for what many hope to be a bounce-back season. MSU will open its season with an August 29 showdown with Western Michigan at home in Spartan Stadium.
