Argyle (Texas) four-star wideout Julian Caldwell is among the most sought-after receivers not only in Texas, but nationally.
The No. 16 player at his position, he’s racked up more than 30 offers and is a priority target for teams in the Big Ten, Big 12, ACC and SEC. But with a handful of official visits already scheduled this summer, he’s ready to narrow down the list of schools he’s considering.

Wednesday night, he named a top five that included Notre Dame, SMU, Texas, Oregon and Texas Tech.
Caldwell, a top-100 prospect, has logged spring visits to Texas and Notre Dame earlier this spring. H is also fresh off a return visit to Texas Tech and will be at Oregon this coming weekend, according to Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman.
As it stands today, no team has emerged as the true favorite, per Spiegelman. But each of those top five have made strong impressions on him. And while there is definitely appeal to stay close to home, the two out-of-state programs are very much a threat.
“Seeing the types of receivers that go to Oregon shows a lot about the program,” Caldwell recently told Spiegelman. “The Texas to Eugene connection is definitely hot right now. Coach Douglas does a great job of developing his wide receivers and bringing the best out of them. Oregon, the scenery changes there, and being away from home could bring out the best in me. I have a lot of confidence that Coach Douglas can bring the best out of me both physically and mentally.”

Notre Dame, meanwhile, got him on campus for the first time earlier this month. That trip has them trending up in his recruitment. The 6-1, 185-pound playmaker has official visits lined up with SMU on May 1, Texas Tech on June 5, Oregon on June 12 and Texas on June 19. The Fighting Irish are working to get their own OV on the calendar.
“I only think highly about Notre Dame,” he told BlueandGold.com. “I’m trying to figure out an official visit date now. I already have a lot set up, so I might do a midweek official [to Notre Dame]. That kind of sucks because there won’t be as many players and recruits there, but I just want to get as many visits here as possible and express my interest.”
