Top Colorado Forward Earns NHL’s Second Star of the Week

by

NHL Public Relations announced the NHL’s Three Stars of the Week on Monday morning. Colorado Avalanche Forward Nathan MacKinnon was named the second star, centering Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl (1st) and Ottawa’s Linus Ullmark (3rd).

MacKinnon currently leads the team in points (50) and assists(37), and sits at second in goals (13). Last week alone, the forward earned 4 goals and 5 assists in 3 games played.

MacKinnon was the first player in the NHL to reach 50 points this season, beating out division rival Kirill Kaprizov (Minnesota Wild, 47) and linemate Mikko Rantanen (47).

MacKinnon has been among the top points leaders in the league for most of the 2024-25 season. He was among the top three contenders to be the first to hit 40 points, along with Kaprizov and Carolina’s Martin Necas. While Colorado was in Raleigh to play Carolina, Necas beat MacKinnon to the punch with a goal and an assist, all before the single assist MacKinnon tallied during that game.

With the help of his excellent performances in his last three games, MacKinnon is among the fastest Avalanche players to reach 50 points, joining the ranks of Mikko Rantanen (2018-2019) and Peter Forsberg (1997-98).
