As satisfying as an early commitment can be, everyone knows that being over a year out from National Signing Day brings far too much time for things to change. The Texas A&M Aggies are as dangerous as any program on the recruiting trail, but they’re not excluded from losing elite targets. When four-star tight end George Lamons decommitted this summer, Mike Elko and his staff were put into a tough position.

Pushing too hard on the Georgia product could’ve reinforced whatever doubt Lamons was having. He revealed that he’s getting a lot of interest after opening his recruitment back up, and his family was a big reason why he needed to be as thorough as possible.
“I just wanted to look at my options again and make sure I’m making the right decision,” Lamons told Rivals. “It wasn’t easy — I still have love for A&M. That place stood out when I visited. College Station felt like family. The coaches took it well, and they make sure I know that they are still there.”
With more than 40 offers on the table and 16 months until his name will be on a dotted line, a bunch of blue bloods and top contenders are trying to squeeze their way to the front of his list. It helps he knows what he’s looking for, too.

“Clemson hit me up right away, then Penn State started reaching out, but Auburn, Georgia, LSU, and Georgia Tech have been hitting me up nonstop. Miami has been on me hard too…“LSU and Georgia Tech stand out the most. LSU is on me hard — every day. They use the tight end well, especially Trey’Dez Green. I visited June 19, and it was even better than I expected. I didn’t know a lot about LSU before that trip, but it was a great visit.”
The Aggies will have to watch the 6-foot-3, 200-pound move tight end make his way to some of the season’s biggest showdowns as he’s courted. It’s like watching a former fiancée be wined and dined by your biggest enemies. Some of the games he’ll be at include: LSU vs. Clemson, LSU’s home opener, and Alabama vs. Georgia.
Auburn and Georgia have been pushing hard to break their way in as well. Elko and his staff must keep the following in mind as they work their way back into the conversation, if Lamons gives them the chance.

“I’m going to take my time now. I just want to be 100% sure before I commit again…I’m looking for a receivers coach and head coach who can develop me on and off the field. I want to be coached hard and pushed. Somewhere that feels like home. ”
