Top-ten Ohio State women’s basketball falls on the road to unranked Indiana

by

Despite a few understandable Big Ten road losses, the Ohio State women’s basketball team has been void of any bad miscues over the past month. Unfortunately, that changed Thursday as the Buckeyes lost on the road to the unranked Indiana Hoosiers.

Ohio State entered the battle with three losses, two of which came on the road to top-ten Big Ten programs like USC and UCLA. The other was its lone other disappointing performance, a 62-59 away loss to Penn State in the middle of January. As for this game, the Buckeyes lost 71-61, but it was more about how they lost than anything else. Ohio State scored just 22 points combined through the second and third quarters.

Despite outscoring the Hoosiers by eight in the fourth, the Buckeyes still suffered a double-digit defeat. Freshman Jaloni Cambridge did most of the work for Ohio State, scoring a team-high 18 points and also leading the way with four rebounds and two assists.

With top-25 teams like Maryland and Michigan State still on the horizon, the Buckeyes will have a chance to improve their résumé prior to the conference tournament. However, this one, like their loss to Penn State, stings and might hurt their chances at a top-2 seed heading into the NCAA Tournament in March.
