On April 14, the Washington Mystics held the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. After a frustrating 14-26 season, the D.C. franchise was looking to turn its fortunes around after several disappointing seasons.
The Mystics selected Georgia Amoore from the Kentucky Wildcats, a 24-year-old Australian who, last season, was a first-team All-SEC and on the WBCA Coaches’ All-American team.

Unfortunately, last month, Amoore suffered an ACL injury during practice and at the time, the Mystics did not provide a timetable for a possible return, instead stating they would “examine treatment and rehabilitation options,” per ESPN’s Kendra Andrews.
It was revealed Friday that Amoore’s injury would be season-ending. The rookie never even got a chance to appear in a preseason game for the Mystics.
Amoore began her collegiate career with the Virginia Tech Hokies, playing for the ACC program for four seasons. For her final year of eligibility, she transferred to Kentucky. With the Wildcats, she posted a career-high 19.6 points per game, along with 2.3 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.0 steals per game.

She only missed one game over her five college seasons, so a season-ending injury is a cruel twist of fate for a player known for her durability.
Expectations in Washington were modest entering the season. In a preseason power rankings, the WNBA slotted the Mystics as the league’s 11th-best team.

“The final pieces of the 2019 championship team are gone from DC with the retirement of Elena Delle Donne and the trade of Ariel Atkins,” read the write-up from the power rankings. “The Mystics are in rebuild mode and had three of the top six picks in the 2025 Draft, selecting Sonia Citron, Kiki Iriafen and Georgia Amoore to begin laying a new foundation alongside Shakira Austin and Aaliyah Edwards.”
