UCF football filled out its coaching staff with the hiring of David Overstreet II as the Knights’ new cornerbacks coach.
Overstreet replaces Will Johnson, who left the program after less than a month to join Kevin O’Connell’s staff with the Minnesota Vikings. who departed for a similar role with the Florida Gators.

“Any time you can bring in someone with David’s level of NFL experience, it’s a win for your program,” UCF coach Scott Frost said in a statement. “He’s spent a ton of time in the pros and helped develop some young, talented guys. He knows what it takes to succeed at the highest of levels, and I think our guys will learn a lot from him.”
Overstreet, 42, joins the program after spending eight seasons in the NFL, serving on the coaching staffs with the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts.
He served as the cornerbacks coach with the Cowboys last season and before that, spent three seasons as the assistant defensive backs coach with the Bears from 2022, where he worked with cornerback Jaylon Johnson. In Indianapolis, Overstreet served as an assistant defensive backs coach (2021) and a defensive quality control assistant (2018-2020).

Johnson’s hiring came after cornerbacks coach Brandon Harris left in December for a similar role with the Florida Gators.
Overstreet served as the cornerbacks coach at Holmes Community College (2015) and Garden City Community College (2016-17).
He was a four-year starter as a safety at Missouri, earning first-team All-Big 12 honors twice.
UCF opens spring football camp on Tuesday, March 31.
