The UConn men’s basketball team is back in action on Sunday, Feb. 23, when the Huskies head to famed Madison Square Garden in New York City for a Big East battle against legendary head coach Rick Pitino and resurgent No. 10 St. John’s. The game is on FOX at Noon.
The Huskies (18-8, 10-5 Big East) are coming off a 66-59 win over Villanova on Tuesday in Hartford, one in which Liam McNeeley scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half as the hosts rallied from 14 down and closed the game on a 27-6 run to clinch victory. That crucial victory came after a disappointing 69-68 overtime road loss to Seton Hall last Saturday in Newark, New Jersey.
UConn is now 6-5 in its last 11 contests.
In the win over Villanova at XL Center, UConn trailed 53-49 with 11:58 to play before taking a 60-58 lead on two McNeeley free throws with 1:42 to play. Tarris Reed Jr. finished with 13 points and nine rebounds for the Huskies, while Solo Ball hit three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points.
After going 20-13 in Rick Pitino’s first season a year ago, No. 10 St. John’s (23-4, 14-2 Big East) is rolling with a 12-1 record in the calendar year. Included in that run is a 68-62 win at Gampel Pavilion over UConn on February 7.
