UFC 327 setback as Beneil Dariush loses opponent for first fight since brutal defeat

Beneil Dariush says he still does not have an opponent lined up for his return to the Octagon.

The lightweight has not stepped into the cage since being knocked out by Benoit Saint Denis in just 16 seconds at UFC 322 last November.

Hoping to bounce back after a surprisingly fast loss at UFC 327, Dariush is set to compete again on April 11.

The UFC veteran was scheduled to fight Manuel Torres in Miami next month, but those plans have changed.

The #14-ranked lightweight had to pull out of UFC 327 after picking up an injury, leaving Dariush waiting for a new opponent.

“I just found out, I think it was yesterday or Sunday, he pulled out,” the 36-year-old American said on the Overdogs podcast.

“He’s injured, so I guess that fight is not happening anymore. I’m waiting for a new opponent. That’s something nobody else has heard so far.”

Dariush went on to explain how the bout kept being pushed back before finally falling through: “To be honest with you, originally, they told me I was supposed to fight Manuel in February, and then they said March 7, and then they said April 11. I’m assuming he was injured and he was pushing it back and pushing it back.

“Essentially, it didn’t work out for him, and he probably reinjured himself. I don’t know the exact details, but whatever it is, all the best to him. I hope he recovers quickly and gets back into the fight game.

“I’m just waiting on an opponent. The only guy I saw that’s available is Paddy [Pimblett].”
