Cezary Oleksiejczuk out to avenge brother, calls out Shara Magomedov
DWCS 80 winner Cezary Oleksiejczuk talks to MMA Junkie and other reporters after being awarded a UFC contract from Dana White.
Referee Gary Copeland caused some confusion in the UFC Apex on Saturday.
As Cezary Oleksiejczuk appeared to have Theo Haig down and out at DWCS 80, Copeland intervened and called timeout. Haig (6-1) had hold of the leg of Oleksiejczuk (16-3), who rained down hammerfists for the (eventually deemed) TKO. Copeland viewed the shots as being to the back of the head, so called timeout at the 36-second mark.
Upon further review and consultation with the other officials cage-side, Copeland deemed Haig was unconscious due to legal shots. The fight was ruled a TKO.
The right person won in the end, but not without much confusion that seemed to suck the life out of the room.
Oleksiejczuk, 25, is the younger brother of UFC middleweight Michal and is likely to join him on the promotion’s roster.
