The octagon made its return to Canada on Saturday with UFC Fight Night 273 at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and it was an up-and-down night for the native talent.

A man some have labeled “Captain Canada” closed the show on the high, however, when Mike Malott (14-2-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) sent former welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns (22-10 MMA, 15-10 UFC) into retirement with a third-round TKO in his most high-profile performance to date.

The UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance payout for the event totaled $176,500.

Debuting fighters went 2-3-1 at the event.Malott, Marcio Barbosa, Charles Jourdain and Kyler Phillips earned $100,000 UFC Fight Night 273 fight-night bonuses. Four fighters earned $25,000 finish bonuses.

UFC Fight Night 273 drew an announced attendance of 14,051 for a live gate of $1,900,000.
