President Donald Trump has the UFC community’s attention this week, that’s for sure.
Trump announced Thursday night that he’d like to host a UFC match on the White House grounds on July 4, 2026. He believes it’d be the perfect way to celebrate the country’s 250th birthday. It certainly helps that he’s on good terms with UFC CEO Dana White.
“Every one of our national park battlefields and historic sites are going to have special events in honor of America 250,” Trump said. “And I even think we’re going to have a UFC – think of this – on the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of land there, we’re going to build a little — we’re not, Dana is going to do it. Dana is great, one of a kind — going to be UFC fight, championship fight, full fight, like 20,000 to 25,000 people.”
Immediately after Trump made this announcement, former UFC champion Conor McGregor let it be known that he’d like to participate in this event.
“Happy 4th of July, USA. Excited with President Trump announcing a UFC fight event at the White House,” McGregor wrote on X. “I would be honoured! Count me in!”
Well, it turns out McGregor isn’t the only marquee name interested in a “Fight Night” at the White House.
Jon Jones, one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, posted this question on social media: “Fighting at the White House?” His post includes the eyes emoji.
Does this mean Jones is a lock to fight at the White House? Not exactly.
Less than a month ago, Jones retired from UFC. His decision shocked a good portion of the sports world.
“Jon Jones called us last night and retired,” White said in late June. “Jon Jones is officially retired. Tom Aspinall is the heavyweight champion of the UFC.”
Will Jones come out of retirement to fight at the White House? Only time will tell.
