Carlos Prates vows to make Ian Machado Garry pay for dubbing him as a quitter.
Prates (21-6 MMA, 4-0 UFC) takes on Garry (15-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) in the UFC on ESPN 66 main event April 26 at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo. The fight came together on short notice after the original headliner between Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree fell through.
Garry posted a video of him watching one of Prates’ old fights in which the Brazilian suffered a TKO loss. He said the Brazilian was looking for a way out.
“Here look at this: This is a video of Carlos Prates and his true fighting spirit. It’s called being a quitter,” Garry said (h/t Championship Rounds). “He had just been beaten up all of the rounds prior. Puts his hand up, shakes his head, says, ‘I’m done,’ and then just drops to the ground in absolute despair because he knows that deep down, he’s not a fighter.”
Prates, who’s on an 11-fight winning streak, has been on a tear since joining the UFC, earning bonuses in all four of his octagon finishes. He clapped back at Garry for his comments.
“We are here training while Ian Garry is on the internet talking sh*t,” Prates responded in a video on his Instagram. “You have a lot of free time. I’m here training. April 26, I’ll to punch him in the mouth. Then, he’ll keep saying he didn’t have time to train. Who was on the Internet talking sh*t? Asshole.”
