Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels continue to build momentum on the recruiting trail and their latest commitment is a big in-state prospect.

After a recent visit, four-star defensive lineman Trashawn Ruffin has officially flipped his commitment from Texas A&M to North Carolina, he announced on Monday via social media. Ruffin was recently on UNC’s campus as the Tar Heels pushed for a big flip. They now have it.

The Mount Olive, North Carolina product committed to Texas A&M back in October of 2024. He continued to draw interest from other programs like UNC, Alabama, and Nebraska among others. He set more visits including one to UNC in June of 2025 and LSU in May of 2025. However, he was won over by Belichick and his staff:

This is a huge pickup for the Tar Heels as they land the big 6-foot-3, 307-pound defensive lineman. Ruffin is ranked No. 184 nationally, the No. 24 defensive lineman and the No. 12 player in the state of North Carolina per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

He’s the ninth commitment in the 2026 class for the Tar Heels and is the highest-rated commit in the class so far.
