Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels hosted a big recruiting weekend in Chapel Hill this past weekend, hoping to land some premier talent in future recruiting classes. And already it’s paid off.
On Sunday, defensive lineman David Jackson told Inside Carolina he was committed to the program, fresh off the big visit on Saturday. Jackson becomes the eighth player in the 2026 recruiting class to commit to North Carolina, giving Belichick and his staff another big commitment.
“We walked around, got to see the whole campus, talked to Bill for a minute,” Johnson told 247Sports’ Brian Dohn on Saturday. “We went over the position and the depth chart with the d-line coach (Bob Diaco) and saw where he was going to put me, what he was going to do with me.
The 6-foot-2, 285-pound defensive lineman out of Maryland has a total of 14 offers in his recruitment with visits scheduled to Virginia Tech and USF as well as offers from Miami. But after the visit to Chapel Hill, it was enough to give the Tar Heels a commitment.
Jackson is ranked as the No. 87 defensive lineman and the No. 19 player overall in the state of Maryland per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
