“Watch out for Penn State man. If Drew Allar can really improve as a quarterback, I agree with you I think they have the best backfield, I don’t think it’s close in the country,” said Meyer.
“They’ve got an offensive line that they can not wait to get on the field. So, yeah, I think Penn State, Texas, and Ohio State are the three most talented.”
The Nittany Lions are expected to have another top-defense next season, as well as top offense. One thing that could push them over the top as a real title contender, as Meyer mentioned is a leap from Allar in his last year of college football.

Allar in his junior season threw for 3,327 yards 24 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. On ESPN in a 2026 mock draft done by Matt Miller, Allar went late in the first round at pick 27 to the Los Angeles Rams. He has arm talent and strength that can not be taught, and pairing that with some of the top-tier talent on Penn’s roster this year, could put them down a path to a title shot.
Meyer also praised Penn State for the amount of seniors they had on their roster.
“Penn State Is following the lead of the Wolverines and the Buckeyes and that is they have more seniors. Think about this Colin that I never had a chance to coach fourth year players. If I did it was very rare. And the difference between a fourth-year player and a rookie is night and day. You’re coaching grown ass men. That a men’s locker room compared to young person’s.”
