USA Network names 76ers announcer Kate Scott as lead broadcaster for WNBA coverage

by

USA Network announced a big splash into WNBA coverage last week, and now the league’s newest partner has its new voice. Kate Scott will be the lead play-by-play broadcaster for USA Network, including the regular season, the playoffs and the WNBA Finals.

Scott is entering her fifth season as the play-by-play announcer for the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, but has a background in women’s basketball. She worked for the Pac 12 Network during the 2010s, calling games for current WNBA stars like Kelsey Plum, Sabrina Ionescu and Satou Sabally. Scott also called men’s and women’s basketball during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

“What an honor it is to reconnect with women’s basketball at this time with this league,” Scott told The Athletic. “This is just the perfect opportunity with a company and a network that realizes and sees how big the W is and how much bigger it can be.”

USA Network is scheduled to air more than 50 games during the 2026 season, including a Wednesday night doubleheader with pre- and postgame coverage. Scott will be the broadcaster on one of the Wednesday games each week and then continue her work into the postseason.

No broadcaster will have more WNBA games than Versant next year, and Scott said she is excited to anchor the company’s foray into a new league. (Versant is the media company which will be spun out next year featuring NBCUniversal’s cable television networks, including USA.)

“This is a big leap for them, this is gonna be a huge part of who they are,” Scott said. “I was really excited about that and the potential to be a part of something new and something big and something that is going to treat the W with the respect and top-notch production it deserves.”

Scott recently made history as the first woman to announce an NFL regular-season game for Westwood One Radio Network. In addition to her work in the NFL and NBA, she began her career as a TV sideline reporter for the San Jose Earthquakes and San Jose Giants and anchor for NBC Bay Area’s Saturday night sportscasts.

“We are incredibly proud to have Kate Scott lead USA Network’s WNBA coverage,” Jeff Behnke, Versant’s Executive Producer for Sports, said in a statement. “Kate’s veteran broadcasting experience and her immense passion for the league will be a big win for the national audience watching and listening to her call the WNBA on USA for years to come.”
