USA Soccer Legend Alex Morgan Heaps Massive Praise on Caitlin Clark’s Career Achievements

by

Ever since her iconic college days with the Iowa Hawkeyes, Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark has become a prominent figure in women’s basketball. Today, she is an icon in women’s sports overall. Off-court accolades, such as being named the fourth most powerful woman in sports by Forbes last year, attest to this. Clark’s popularity and impact on women’s sports have skyrocketed so quickly that she is now garnering praise from notable women’s athletes from other sports. In a video uploaded by the Instagram page Just Women’s Sports on Monday, July 6, retired Team USA football player Alex Morgan praised Clark for what she has done for her brand both in college hoops and in the WNBA.

“ What she was able to accomplish both at Iowa and then now in the WNBA and personally for her brand is something that really no female athlete has been able to do at her age,” Morgan said. (0:00)

Morgan is best known for the four different occasions she played in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, making her debut back in 2011. The 37-year-old helped her country win the World Cup twice, most notably the 2015 one which was Team USA’s first since 1999. Similar to Clark, her impact toward women’s sports extends beyond her sport, and the two are heavily considered as among the most popular women’s athletes globally.

In 2024, Alex Morgan suited up for Team USA for the fourth and final time during the SheBelieves Cup. In the midst of their preparations in their camp, the team held a watch party for that year’s Women’s Final Four. To show her support, Morgan pulled up wearing a Caitlin Clark Iowa Hawkeyes jersey. The gesture went viral at the time, as it represented a crossover between two sports and two famous athletes.

In the 2024 Women’s NCAA Final Four, Clark and then coach Jan Jensen’s Hawkeyes defeated coach Geno Auriemma’s UConn Huskies by two points, 71-69. The Hawkeyes went on to face coach Dawn Staley’s South Carolina Gamecocks in that year’s NCAA title game. At that point, this was the second consecutive time that Clark and company made it to the winner-take-all game. Unfortunately for the Hawkeyes, they lost by 12 points, 87-75.
