At long last, game week is officially upon us! The USC Trojans kick off their 2025 football season on Saturday at the Coliseum against Missouri State. While the regular season has not even begun, it is never too early to start thinking about bowl games, right?
In a recent story, USA TODAY Sports shared its preseason bowl game predictions for the 2025 college football season. Right now, it has the Trojans facing Iowa State in the Alamo Bowl.

“Forecasting the future can be intimidating when the world is chaotic and uncertain,” writer Erick Smith wrote. “Thankfully, making successful college football bowl predictions aren’t as important as some of the biggest issues in the world. But that doesn’t make the exercise any easier. This season shapes up to be one of the more balanced in recent history. Three teams received more than 10 first-place votes in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll for the first time since 2012. Many of the top contenders are still sorting out their quarterback situations and will have unproven starters. There’s also the matter of imbalanced schedules among the top contenders.”
It should be noted that while USC is currently entering its second season in the Big Ten, the Trojans (along with all of the other former Pac-12 schools) are still bound to Pac-12 bowl ties for at least one more season due to existing contracts. Remarkably, while the Alamo Bowl has taken the top Pac-10/12 team not selected to a BCS/New Year’s Six/College Football Playoff bowl every year since 1993, USC has somehow never played in the game. (It should be noted that the 2020 Trojans would have been invited to the Alamo Bowl following their Pac-12 Championship Game loss to Oregon, but decided to decline a bowl game invitation due to COVID-19 complications.)
Could this finally be the year that changes? At least one writer seems to think so.
