USC Men top UNLV in Regular-Season Finale

The USC men’s swimming and diving team won 15 of 16 events to defeat UNLV 200-61 on Friday, Feb. 6, in the regular-season finale.

The Trojans started with Michal Chmielewski, Junhao Chan, Jan Bialecki and Oliver Sogaard-Andersen winning the 200-yard medley relay.

Thomas Olsen took the 1000 freestyle (9:08.38) for his first win of the day before touching the wall first in the 500 free (4:26.79).

Vaggelis Makrygiannis was a double winner, claiming victory in the 200y free (1:33.93) and the 200 backstroke (1:42.67).

Michal was the third Trojan to win both of his individual events on the day. Michal Chmielewski posted a time of 46.43 in the 100 back before taking the win in the 100 fly with a time of 46.14.

Junhao Chan swept both breaststroke events and met the NCAA qualifying standard times in the process. Chan touched the wall with a time of 52.39 and 1:54.45 in the 100 breast and 200 breast respectively.

USC claimed the top four spots in the 100 breast with Chan leading the way followed by Stuart Timmerman, Keller Morgan and Nathan Wu. The Trojans repeated with the top four times in the 200y breast with Chan, Filip Mujan, Timmerman and Morgan going one-two-three-four.

Charlie Bufton met the qualifying standard in the 200y fly with a time of 1:43.78 to take the event win.

Sogaard-Andersen posted a time of 42.90 in the 100y free.

Mujan took first in the 200 IM to close out the individual events with a time of 1:49.31.

USC closed out the meet with a time of 1:56.36 in the 400 freestyle relay by the team of Emiliano Zamudio, Pierce O’Grady, Reid Caswell and Drew Huston.

UNLV’s Bryson Huey won the 50 freestyle in 19.80.
