USC women’s basketball is preparing for the big one, or should we say, “the B1G one.” This game against UCLA on Thursday night in the Galen Center is for the Big Ten women’s basketball championship. The winner doesn’t clinch the title, but if UCLA wins, the Bruins will have half a foot on the victory stand. It will be extremely difficult for USC to overcome a two-game deficit if it loses to UCLA on Thursday. If USC wins, the Big Ten title race will almost certainly be decided in the rematch between these two teams in the regular-season finale on Saturday, March 1, in Pauley Pavilion. This is a championship game. It isn’t a clincher, but it’s a championship game in the same way that the first game of a two-leg Champions League soccer competition is a championship game.
