USC women’s basketball has many roster spots to fill in the transfer portal. Fans were understandably uneasy with the reality that time was passing and the Trojans weren’t making many pickups. One key point to emphasize: High-end players are still entering the portal. The race to fill spots is not that intense. It’s much more about taking the extra time to find the right fits, getting the players who will blend in smoothly. Lindsay Gottlieb, who talked to us on our podcast recently, strongly believes in fit and culture, not just getting the best player available. Kara Dunn, whom Gottlieb pulled in to USC from Georgia Tech, really does seem like a good fit for the Trojans.

“She fits right into Gottlieb’s system as a defender, but her scoring should help the Women of Troy offset the expected absence of superstar JuJu Watkins. Dunn was efficient in 2024-25, shooting 49.3 percent from the field, 35.4 percent from behind the arc and 80.2 percent from the charity stripe. And she picked her spots well. She averaged 11.2 field goal attempts and 4.5 three-point attempts per game.
“She also does the little things well. She was the second-leading rebounder on the team with 5.8 rebounds a game, with almost half of them coming on the offensive boards, and she averaged a team-high 1.3 steals per game with 1.5 turnovers a game.”
Doesn’t this seem like a Lindsay Gottlieb-Beth Burns player? She’ll do the dirty work. She won’t hijack the offense. She has a high basketball IQ. She defends. This is a good choice who should help USC immensely.
