Things to know

  • Saturday’s game could have major ramifications for who makes the CUSA Tournament. NM State currently holds the tournament’s final spot as it is 10th in the conference standings, but 11th-placed UTEP is only one game behind it and will hold a head-to-head tiebreaker should it complete a two-game sweep.

  • The Aggies have two of CUSA’s top 10 leaders in points per game, with forward Lucía Yenes ranking ninth at 13.5 points per game and guard Imani Warren tied for 10th at 12.8 points per game.

  • Miners forward Mary Moses Amaniyo ranks fourth in the conference with 8.6 rebounds per game.

Men’s basketball

Location: Pan American Center, Las Cruces, NM

Time: Feb. 21, 7 p.m.

Things to know

  • Like the women’s game, the men’s game could also have major ramifications for who makes the CUSA Tournament. UTEP and NM State currently hold the tournament’s final two spots as they are in ninth and 10th, respectively, in the conference standings, with the latter rising from 12th to 10th after losses from Delaware and Florida International earlier this week.

  • This will be the last matchup between the Miners and Aggies as a CUSA matchup, as the former will join the Mountain West Conference this summer. The same is true for the women.

  • NM State will formally recognize Sam Lacey’s induction into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame during halftime, with Rob Evans, a former teammate of Lacey’s with the Aggies and a former NM State assistant coach, and his daughter, Gretchen Downey, taking part in the ceremony. Lacey was inducted into the Hall of Fame’s 2024 class, was a part of the Aggies’ 1970 Final Four team and still holds school records for single-season rebounds per game (15.9) and career rebounds (493).
