Valencia Basket has strengthened its backcourt ahead of the 2026-27 season by signing American shooting guard Armoni Brooks on a one-year loan from LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne.
The move was announced Monday by Valencia, just one month after ASVEL signed Brooks to a two-year contract. Instead of making his debut in France, the 28-year-old will immediately join a Valencia team that is coming off a 25-13 EuroLeague regular season, a Final Four appearance, and a second-place finish in the standings.
Brooks arrives after the best season of his professional career with EA7 Emporio Armani Olimpia Milan. In 38 EuroLeague games during the 2025-26 campaign, he averaged 13.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 41.6% from three-point range. His 2.7 made three-pointers per game ranked third in the competition, making him one of the league’s premier perimeter threats. He also became one of only four EuroLeague players to eclipse 100 made three-pointers during the season.
His production extended well beyond European competition. Brooks averaged 16.0 points and 3.8 rebounds in Italy’s Lega Basket Serie A, earning the Dino Meneghin Trophy as the league’s Most Valuable Player while helping Milan capture the domestic league and Italian Cup titles.
Brooks was also named Italian Cup MVP after averaging 19.7 points and four made three-pointers per game on 57.1% shooting from beyond the arc during the tournament. He added Italian League Finals MVP honors after averaging 15.5 points across the four-game championship series while connecting on 51.7% of his three-point attempts, averaging 3.75 made threes per contest. He was also selected to the All-Lega Basket Serie A First Team.
Several of Brooks’ standout performances showcased his elite shooting ability. He buried seven three-pointers in Game 3 of Milan’s playoff quarterfinal against Reggio Emilia and erupted for eight triples in a EuroLeague victory over Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens.
Valencia’s offseason has featured significant roster turnover following last season’s successful EuroLeague campaign. The club lost key contributors including Jean Montero, Darius Thompson, Brancou Badio, Jaime Pradilla, Braxton Key and Matt Costello, while longtime head coach Pedro Martinez departed before Xavi Albert took over.
To reshape the roster, Valencia has added EuroLeague stars TJ Shorts and Brooks alongside Dylan Osetkowski, Gonzalo Corbalan, Mario Saint-Supery, Mouhamadou Gueye. Brooks’ shooting should help replace some of the perimeter production lost during the summer.
Before establishing himself in Europe, Brooks played four NBA seasons with the Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets. He appeared in 84 NBA games, averaging 6.2 points while demonstrating the outside shooting that later became his calling card overseas.
For ASVEL, Brooks’ loan continues an eventful offseason shaped by financial adjustments. The French club recently confirmed that a revised budget forced changes to its roster plans despite maintaining its long-term EuroLeague ambitions. Valencia, meanwhile, gains one of Europe’s most dangerous long-range shooters as it looks to build on last season’s run to the EuroLeague Final Four.
