Five women shot 900 in the championship compound female category for the first time in the history of the event across three days, as scoring concluded on Sunday at The Vegas Shoot.
Ella Gibson, Morgan Rives, Alexis Ruiz, Taylor Miller and Tanja Gellenthien, the reigning series winner, made the final shootdown and will compete for the first prize of USD 50,000 later on Sunday.
Meanwhile, 32 men – including defending champion Bodie Turner, Mike Schloesser and Kyle Douglas, both former champions – shot the maximum 900 in the championship compound open division across the three days.
They will be joined by multiple-time Asia Cup winner Kushal Dalal, who is competing in Vegas for the first time, as the ‘Lucky Dog’ – the archer who won the shootdown contested by all archers in the division who scored 899 across the three days. All of them will compete in the Vegas shootdown.
“It was a special moment. My heart was pumping very hard but I still managed to shoot in the centre. It’s a long trip from India to the USA, and I was thinking that, to be in the final I had to shoot 900. I managed to enter the final, so I’m just going with the flow,” Das said after earning his place in the shootdown.
In recurve events, Brady Ellison and Casey Kaufhold defended their titles in style, finishing their campaigns on top in Vegas.
Over three days of competition, Ellison shot 886, which was just one point ahead of two other archers on 885, making him the outright winner and clinching his 12th Vegas Shoot victory.
In the recurve women’s competition, world number three Kaufhold shot 884 over three days to retain her title by four points. Her final day score of 295 was matched by fellow USA archer Catalina Gnoriega, but it wasn’t enough in the end.
The championship Vegas shootdowns will be broadcast live on archery+ on Sunday evening.
