Villanova Lands 2027 Verbal Pledge From Breaststroker Tripp Cooler

NEW COMMIT: Charlotte, North Carolina native Tripp Cooler has announced his intention to continue his academic and swimming career at Villanova University beginning in Fall 2027. Cooler is a Junior National qualifier.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am extremely excited and humbled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Villanova University! I want to give a huge thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for their unwavering support throughout this entire process. To Coach Rick, Coach Keanan, Coach Laura, and Coach AJ – thank you for this amazing opportunity. I am beyond excited for what the future holds! I can’t wait to be a Wildcat. Go Wildcats!”

Primarily a breaststroker, Cooler does his club swimming with SwimMAC Carolina. He most recently competed at Cary Sectionals earlier this month where he finished fourth in the 200 breast and fifth in both the 100 breast and 200 IM. He finaled in five events at North Carolina Short Course Seniors in February and raced three events at Juniors East in December.

Last summer, Cooler raced to 15th in the 200m breast at Greensboro Futures before going on to race the 50m breast and 100m breast at Junior Nationals.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 55.71
  • 200 breast – 2:01.13
  • 200 IM – 1:51.68

Currently a junior at the Cannon School, Cooler won the 100 breast and placed third in the 200 IM at the 2026 NCISAA State Championships after winning the 100 breast at the CISAA Conference Championships the week prior. He took third in the 100 breast and fifth in the 200 IM at the state meet during his sophomore season.

Cooler is a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.

Cooler’s top time in the 200 breast would’ve ranked second on the Wildcats’ lineup this past season while his fastest 100 breast would’ve ranked third.
