Virginia Tech and head coach James Franklin continued their momentum on the recruiting trail, adding a commitment from running back Kelvin Morrison on Thursday.
Morrison, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound running back from Hermitage, Pennsylvania, plays his high school football at Hickory High School. He picked the Hokies over an impressive list of offers, featuring Miami, Ohio State, Penn State, and Tennessee, among others. It represents yet another recruiting win for Franklin over his former team.
A three-star prospect, Morrison is the first offensive commitment for the Hokies in the 2027 class. He’s also the first commit for new running backs coach Norval McKenzie.

Morrison has had an outstanding career, rushing for over 800 yards and nine touchdowns as a freshman, followed by a combined 3,000 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns. He’s averaged around nine yards per rushing attempt for his career.
Per 247Sports, Morrison is the 17th-ranked player in Pennsylvania for 2027, and the No. 46 running back in the country.
