NCAA Women’s Championships: Virginia Wins Fifth Straight 200 Medley Relay

The names have changed, but Virginia’s spot atop the 200 medley relay podium hasn’t.

For the fifth straight edition of the NCAA Division I Championships, the Cavaliers won the 200 medley relay on Wednesday night, opening up the 2026 meet at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Aquatic Center.

The quartet of Sara Curtis, Emma Weber, Claire Curzan and Bryn Greenwaldt went 1:31.67. It’s the fourth-fastest time among the five in the streak, a half-second shy of the NCAA record set at 1:31.10 in 2025, of which Curzan is the only holdover.

Virginia took down the pool record of 1:32.16 set by the 2022 UVA squad at NCAAs.

Stanford and Louisville tied for second with Tennessee fourth. California, which entered as the sixth seed, was disqualified.

Curzan swam backstroke last year but split 21.51 in butterfly Wednesday, the fastest in the field and the only sub-22 swim. Curtis’ split of 22.73 was the quickest, only she and Stanford’s Torri Huske (22.98) breaking 23 seconds.

Greenwaldt was just seventh-fastest among the anchors at 21.01. Weber split 26.24 in a field with five swims in the 25s.

Louisville charged home via a 20.71 split from Julia Dennis to knot up with Stanford for second. Both teams went 1:32.35. Huske was joined by Lucy Thomas, Gigi Johnson and Anna Olasewere in the Cardinal finishing second for the second straight year. (The last pickup was a slow one, Olasewere leaving .45 seconds on the block.)

Louisville was third last year. Julie Mishler, Anastasia Gorbenko (a race-best 25.44) and Caroline Larsen joined Dennis.

Tennessee finished fourth in 1:32.66, with NC State fifth in 1:33.05. The Lady Vols were just 13th in this event last year.

California was fourth last year and seeded sixth, but a jump by Mia West on the anchor leg denied the Golden Bears a chance to joust with NC State for fifth and any points in the race.

Michigan was sixth. Texas bumps up to seventh, swimming out of the morning slowest heats.
