VOTE for the Morris/Sussex Football Player of the Week for Week 2

After another thrilling week of the high school football season, it’s time to look back on the best performances.

Read about the players who stood out last week and let us know who you think should be the Morris/Sussex Player of the Week in the poll at the bottom of this page.

Carter Bujno, Hackettstown

The sophomore quarterback completed 4 of his 6 passes for 200 yards and three passing touchdowns in a 50-0 win over Sussex Tech on Sept. 13. Bujno also rushed 5 times for 90 yards and two touchdowns in his first varsity victory under center.

Justin Bullock, Mount Olive

The junior defensive back/wide receiver had two interceptions and four tackles as the Marauders defeated Randolph, 48-7, on Sept. 12. Bullock also scored twice offensively with a 3-yard touchdown run, as well as three catches for 44 yards and a touchdown.

Hasan Cherry, Boonton

The freshman running back rushed 8 times for 156 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-32 win over Whippany Park on Sept. 12. Cherry also caught three passes for 89 yards and another touchdown in the victory.

Deacon Frayne, West Morris

The sophomore running back rushed 16 times for 121 yards as the Wolfpack defeated Morristown, 31-6, on Sept. 12. Frayne has led West Morris in rushing in 2025 and has averaged more than seven yards per carry through three games.

Luke Gialanella, Pope John

The junior running back rushed 10 times for 206 yards in a 35-0 win over Kellenberg (NY) on Sept. 13. Gialanella paced a Lions offense that earned more than 400 yards from scrimmage for its first victory of the season. Gialanella had an 87-yard rush that set up one of Pope John’s touchdown drives.

Shane Hoover, Sparta

The senior quarterback completed 18 of his 25 pases for 268 yards and two touchdown passes in a 28-13 win over Roxbury on Sept. 12. Hoover connected with Anthony Settembre and Stone Herbison for touchdown passes. Hoover has thrown for at least 250 yards in all three games in 2025.

Jack Kovacs, Hanover Park

The senior quarterback completed 11 of his 13 passes for a career-best 209 yards and three passing touchdowns in a 35-21 win over Mountain Lakes on Sept. 12. Kovacs also rushed 16 times for 66 yards. The Hornets are off to a 3-0 start for the third straight season.

Jerron Martress, High Point

The senior running back rushed 30 times for 143 yards and two touchdowns in a 14-7 win over Kittatinny on Sept. 12. Martress also caught three passes for 33 yards in the win. Martress has rushed for at least 140 yards in every game this season and has at least 97 yards rushing in 14 straight games dating back to the start of the 2024 season.

Luke McGuire, Madison

The senior quarterback completed 7 of his 9 passes for 175 yards and two passing touchdowns to Carter Ferris in a 42-8 win over Mendham on Sept. 13. McGuire also rushed 15 times for 123 yards and two more touchdowns from 3 and 8 yards in the victory.

Dylan Roemmele, Pequannock

The senior running back rushed 15 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-6 win over Parsippany on Sept. 12. Roemmele also caught four passes for 118 yards and a touchdown. The 118 receiving yards for Roemmele set a new career-high for a single game, while the 118 rushing yards were the most for the senior in one game since 2023.

Kiyon Simpson, Hopatcong

The senior running back rushed 11 times for 134 yards and three touchdowns in a 27-20 win over North Warren on Sept. 12. Simpson set a new career high in rushing yards for one game and scored as many rushing touchdowns as his career total entering the game.
