VERMILLION — Another former Watertown High School football standout Blake Holden is looking for the opportunity to continue playing at the highest level.

The 6-foot, 3-inch, 300-pound defensive lineman is one of 15 University of South Dakota slated to participate in USD Pro Day activites on Wednesday, March 26, in the DakotaDome. The event will start at 8 a.m.

The Coyotes enjoyed an 11-3 season in 2024 that included a share of the Missouri Valley Football Conference title with a 7-1 record. USD advanced to the semifinals of the Football Championship Subdivision (FSC) playoffs before losing to Montana State.

As a redshirt senior, the 2019 WHS graduate recorded 53 tackles (21 solos) with five quarterback sacks, earning second team All-MVFC honors.

In his USD career, Holden appeared in 43 games and tallied 139 tackles, nine sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and five deflected passes.

Other Coyotes slated to particpate in the Pro Day are wide receivers Tristan Michaud; AJ Coons and Carter Bell; defensive backs Dennis Shorter, Teven McKelvey, Keyon Turner, Josiah Ganues and Mike Reid; defensive lineman Mosai Newsom and Nick Gaes; running back Travis Theis; linebacker Jonathan Bunce; offensive lineman Joey Lombard; and tight end JJ Galbreath.

Spencer Waege, a 2017 WHS graduate and North Dakota State standout, participated in NDSU’s Pro Day event in 2023 and two seasons in National Football League training camps with the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers. Also a defensive lineman, Waege has signed to play this spring-summer with the Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Tiger Cats.
