Happy wife, happy life —or however the saying goes —is likely how Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko manages his personal life alongside leading one of the biggest programs in the country. On Wednesday, during Elko’s weekly Aggie Football Hour, the second-year head coach’s wife, Michelle, made a definitive statement regarding his husband’s future in College Station.
To preface, Mike Elko has been connected to the recent Penn State head coach opening after James Franklin was dismissed earlier this month, primarily due to his East Coast ties as a New Jersey native and his college playing days at Penn. However, after Elko was directly asked about this connection during Monday’s press conference, and while he didn’t technically say he wasn’t interested, his answer should have been enough to move on.
“I think it’s absolutely hilarious how you guys cover coaches. Three weeks ago, you wanted me fired. Now, you want me hired.”
Well, all this did was fuel the national media speculation, but that should be shut down after Aggie Football Hour co-host Andrew Monaco jokingly asked Elko which of the recent head coach vacancies he was thinking of taking, leading to Elko stating, “Why don’t you talk to the boss lady back there?” Humorously referring to his wife, Michelle, who was heard in the background stating, “We’re not going anywhere.”

This should be enough for the rest of the Aggie fan base still skeptical of Elko’s intentions to end this conversation, as he continues to be on the LSU Tigers this weekend, followed by Missouri, South Carolina, Samford, and the Texas Longhorns.
