West Texas A&M womens basketball earns 30th NCAA Tournament bid

CANYON ― The West Texas A&M Lady Buffs have been selected for their 30th NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Championship tournament. The selection was made Sunday night during the annual online selection show on NCAA.com.

West Texas A&M earned the No. 2 seed in the South Central Region and will face seventh-seeded University of Texas at Tyler on Friday, March 13. Texas Woman’s University, the Lone Star Conference regular season and tournament champion, was named the top seed and will host the regional at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton, Texas, according to an announcement.

The Lady Buffs are 42-28 all-time in NCAA Tournament games. The program’s 43 tournament victories rank fifth among all NCAA Division II programs and fourth among active Division II schools.

Over the years, the Lady Buffs have claimed eight regional championships and made two appearances in the National Finals since the 1986-87 season. Over the last nine NCAA tournament appearances, West Texas A&M has compiled a 20-9 record, secured four South Central Regional Championships and earned a spot in the 2014 Division II National Title Game, according to an announcement.

The NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Elite Eight in 2026 is scheduled to take place March 24-28 at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
