The Washington Mystics selected Alabama women’s basketball guard Zaay Green with the No. 32 pick in the WNBA draft on Monday.
Green was the third player to be drafted from the Crimson Tide in the 2025 draft, joining Sarah Ashlee Barker (ninth to the Sparks) and Aaliyah Nye (13th to the Aces).

Green averaged 15.7 points per game with the Crimson Tide in 2024-25. She added five rebounds and a team-high 4.5 assists per game while shooting 46.7% from the field. She surpassed 1,500 points for her career last season.
Green was only with the Crimson Tide one season after three at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, a season at Texas A&M in 2020-21 and her first two seasons at Tennessee. While at Pine Bluff, she played two full seasons, averaging 15.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists. She averaged near double-figures at Tennessee in each season, but the 2019-20 campaign was cut short by an injury.
The postivies
Green played more of a point guard role for the Crimson Tide with Barker and Nye on the wing. She averaged 4.5 assists and had 17 games with more than five assists. Alabama struggled at times without her on the court, especially in the NCAA tournament loss to Maryland once she got in foul trouble.

While she can distribute the ball, she was the second-leading scorer for the Crimson Tide last year. She was able to provide rebound help with five per game.

The concerns
There’s some injury concerns for Green, with two seasons being lost to injury over her lengthy collegiate career. Another concern is her age: She is 25 on draft day, graduating high school in 2018. She played seven years of college but really just five full seasons.

Green has some work to do with her 3-point shot, only hitting 36%, and needs to improve her 65.4% free-throw percentage, but she only took 78 foul shots last season with Alabama.
Final thoughts
Green will bring a veteran approach to any team and can use a strong option at the point, but she will need to improve her 3-point and free-throw shooting to truly excel at the next level.
