The No. 5 Indiana football team will have a first-of-its-kind matchup against No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday at Ohio Stadium.

It’s the first ever top five matchup between the teams in the long-running series that dates back to 1901.

The Hoosiers (10-0; 7-0 Big Ten) are just one of three unbeaten teams left in the country. The matchup will likely determine which team faces Oregon in the Big Ten title game and will have a significant impact on the College Football Playoff rankings.

Ohio State 28, Indiana 17: Michigan didn’t have the offensive firepower to hang with IU even in a low-scoring game, but Ohio State is a different animal.

This is the first time this season the Hoosiers won’t have an advantage at the skill positions.

The Buckeyes running backs Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson and receivers Jeremiah Smith and Emeka Egbuka are all projected top-100 picks, and they have a quarterback in Will Howard who, like Rourke, doesn’t make many mistakes.

Indiana will give itself a chance if it can pressure the quarterback the same way it did against Michigan and Michigan State, but that’s a tall ask even with OSU shuffling around some pieces up front.

This will be decided on the slimmest of margins, and it’s not like IU doesn’t have some clear advantages. Those start on the sidelines with Cignetti and his staff.

They are terrific in-game managers and have a long track record of success in one-possession games. That’s an area where Day has struggled with the most recent example coming against Oregon.

It’s also hard not to give the edge at quarterback to Rourke even though he and Howard have similar overall numbers.

It should make for a game worthy of all the hype on Saturday.
