Florida basketball will seek another statement road win when it travels to face Mississippi State on Tuesday night.
The No. 3 Florida Gators (20-3, 7-3 SEC) notched their second win against a No. 1 this season and first on the road in program history when they beat Auburn 90-81 on Saturday at Neville Arena in Auburn, Ala.
Senior point guard Walter Clayton Jr. helped lift UF to the win over Auburn with 19 points and a career-high nine assists.
“He just struck an incredible balance of being aggressive scoring, obviously he had nine assists and did a great job of finding his teammates,” Florida basketball coach Todd Golden said. “Just played an incredible floor game.”
Clayton is leading UF in both scoring (17.5 ppg) and assists (4.0 apg). Florida could be without its second leading scorer, Alijah Martin, who is listed as questionable on the SEC’s Availability Report with a hip pointer. Martin sat out UF’s win at Auburn.
Mississippi State (17-6, 5-5 SEC) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 76-75 win at Georgia on Saturday. The Bulldogs are led by sophomore guard Josh Hubbard, who ranks seventh in the SEC in scoring (17.5 ppg).
