Justin Allgaier, Corey Lajoie and Chandler Smith are among the drivers who will have to race their way into the 500 field as open entries. Helio Castroneves struggled in Wednesday’s qualifying and will either need to race his way in or lean on the OEP as a 41st car into the field.
The Cup Series regular season opens on Sunday with the Daytona 500, the biggest race of the year.
