What Michigan head coach Dusty May said about Michigan State after win

by

For Michigan State basketball fans, it was a gut-wrenching night in the Breslin Center, as they watched the Spartans climb back from an 18-point deficit to take the lead in the second half, only to run out of steam and fall just short in the end. For Dusty May and the Michigan Wolverines, it was another signature win in what has been the best start in the young Dusty May era at Michigan.

After the game, Dusty May shared his thoughts on Michigan State, the win, and what it means for his squad. This press conference started out with Dusty May emphasizing his respect for the MSU program, something that was a little divisive after last season’s infamous ‘logo incident‘. You can see some of what he had to say below:

  • “Congratulating our guys on a hard-fought win. We respect these guys from Michigan State a great, great deal, and I still remember being a little kid in Southern Indiana, and I didn’t get to go to many IU games, and there was one game I went to, and I think Shawn Respert probably put up 44, and there’s these moments as a little kid where you’re like ‘wow’ to be parts of those kind of environments, and tonight felt like that. This was electric… I’m not saying we got a very warm welcome, but this was a good sign for our guys to get to battle in this type of physical game and come up with enough rebounds and loose balls to get over the hump against a team we struggled with last year.”

  • “We’ll refer back to these moments… We figured out a way to not collapse when it looked bleak.”

  • When asked about Michigan’s losing streak in East Lansing being snapped, Dusty May quoted Curt Cignetti: “This team hasn’t played here.”

  • “Obviously, this is big for our fans, but this was more about us winning on the road because we have a difficult schedule coming up.”
