ESPN recently released a ranking of every projected power-conference starting quarterback heading into spring practice, evaluating 68 players across the country based on production and recent trends. Clemson quarterback Christopher Vizzina landed at No. 52 on the list.
The ranking reflects how little game experience Vizzina has had so far during his Clemson career. The former high four-star prospect arrived in the 2023 recruiting class with more than 30 scholarship offers and a reputation as one of the nation’s top quarterbacks. Since then, he has spent his time developing behind Cade Klubnik.

In three seasons with the Tigers, Vizzina has appeared in 14 games and played 238 offensive snaps. During that span he has completed 61 percent of his passes for 596 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. He has also contributed 109 rushing yards and a touchdown on 38 carries.
His biggest opportunity came last season when he made his first career start against SMU. In that game, Vizzina threw for 317 yards and three touchdowns. For the year, he played in five games and finished with 406 passing yards while completing 63.4 percent of his throws.
ESPN analyst Bill Connelly referenced that performance while discussing Clemson’s quarterback situation.
“Vizzina was decent in his only career start — he threw for 317 yards and three TDs (albeit at just 6.4 yards per dropback) in a 35-24 loss to SMU — and having receivers T.J. Moore and Bryant Wesco Jr. at his disposal will help. But after only one top-40 finish in offensive SP+ in the past five seasons, the Clemson offense no longer gets the benefit of the doubt, and that doesn’t change with new/old offensive coordinator Chad Morris taking over — he hasn’t overseen a good college offense since 2017.”

Even so, the environment around Vizzina could help him outperform expectations. Clemson’s receiving corps has quickly turned into one of the most exciting groups on the roster, led by young playmakers T.J. Moore and Bryant Wesco Jr. Their ability to stretch the field could give the next Clemson starter plenty of help.
That means Vizzina could be in position to change the narrative if he eventually takes over the offense. With talented receivers around him and another year of development in the system, he has a clear opportunity to surprise people and outperform where he currently sits in preseason rankings.
Within the ACC, Vizzina was listed as the 12th-highest quarterback in ESPN’s rankings. Several conference signal callers appeared ahead of him, including Miami’s Darian Mensah, NC State’s CJ Bailey, Cal’s Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, SMU’s Kevin Jennings, Virginia Tech’s Ethan Grunkemeyer, Virginia’s Beau Pribula, Syracuse’s Steve Angeli, Florida State’s Ashton Daniels, Georgia Tech’s Alberto Mendoza, Duke’s Walker Eget and Pitt’s Mason Heintschel.
