After Iowa women’s basketball’s (24-5, 15-3 Big Ten) two victories over Illinois (82-78) and Wisconsin (81-52), where do the Hawkeyes rank in the March 2 update to the Associated Press Top 25 Women’s College Basketball Poll?
During Thursday’s win against the Fighting Illini from inside another sold-out Carver-Hawkeye Arena, sophomore center Ava Heiden posted a new career-high 28 points on 13-of-18 shooting from the floor, to go along with four rebounds, one assist, and one block in 23 minutes of play for the Hawkeyes.

In the Hawkeyes’ rout of the Badgers in their Big Ten regular-season finale from the Kohl Center on Sunday, Heiden once again powered the team to victory with 16 points on 8-for-11 shooting and 14 rebounds, alongside 14 points from Chit-Chat Wright, 10 from Taylor Stremlow, and 10 from Teagan Mallegni.
Despite Iowa’s two victories, the Hawkeyes stayed put in their No. 9 ranking in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll.
In addition to Iowa, six other Big Ten squads are within the updated top 25. The No. 2 UCLA Bruins lead the group, followed by No. 8 Michigan, No. 11 Ohio State, No. 14 Maryland, No. 18 Michigan State, and No. 19 Minnesota.
Washington (four points) and Illinois (two points) are the only two conference representatives in the receiving votes category.

Entering the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament as the No. 2 seed with a double-bye, the Hawkeyes will play their next game on Friday, March 4, from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind., at approximately 5:30 p.m. CT. While their opponent is still to be determined, Iowa will play either Wisconsin, Illinois, or Michigan State.
