The Marquette men’s basketball team lost two tough heartbreakers to close the regular season.
While dropping a road game to Connecticut and a home game to St. John’s aren’t NCAA Tournament profile killers, when you add those to the several subpar performances for the Golden Eagles since Feb. 1 then it just adds to the damage.
The Golden Eagles (22-9, 13-7 Big East) will try to get back on track against Xavier on Thursday in the Big East Tournament.

March 5 at Connecticut: The Golden Eagles were within one point in the final minute at Gampel Pavilion, then the Huskies’ Alex Karaban hit a dagger three-pointer to send MU to a 72-66 loss.
March 8 vs. St. John’s: The Red Storm’s Zuby Ejiofor ruined MU’s Senior Day by dropping in a bucket at the buzzer for an 86-84 win in overtime.
Coming up for the Golden Eagles
March 13 vs. Xavier in Big East tournament: The teams split the regular-season series, each winning on the road. The Musketeers are fighting for a NCAA Tournament berth, so MU will have to match Xavier’s hunger.
