Kentucky women’s basketball rebounded from its first loss of the season with two big wins and is ranked 16th in the latest AP Top 25 rankings.
The Wildcats (9-1) began last week with an 87-45 win over Queens before defeating Purdue, 82-52. UK will have almost a week off before hosting Belmont at 6 p.m. Friday. It’ll have one more game against Western Kentucky before opening SEC action against Mississippi State at 7 p.m. Jan. 2.
The conference’s ranked teams also include South Carolina (second), LSU (fifth), Texas (sixth), Oklahoma (10th), Tennessee (18th) and Ole Miss (25th).
In Kenny Brooks’ first season leading the Wildcats, they’re averaging 76.9 points per game and allowing only 53.7 points per game, which ranks 22nd in the country. Guard Georgia Amoore’s 7.2 assists per game ranks fourth among women’s basketball players. Forward Teonni Key and center Clara Strack are averaging 2.9 and 2.6 blocks per game, respectively, which ranks fifth and eighth. Strack is the Wildcats’ leading scorer, averaging 16 points.
