Where South Carolina, Dawn Staley rank in polls after beating Texas, SEC tournament win

South Carolina women’s basketball won the SEC tournament, beating then No. 1 Texas, and is now No. 2 in the AP top 25. The USA TODAY coaches poll will be released on Tuesday.

The Gamecocks (30-3) finished the regular season on a four-game win streak and picked up three more wins in the tournament, beating Vanderbilt, Oklahoma and Texas.

Before playing South Carolina, Oklahoma was No. 10 in the polls, but is now No. 11 and Texas dropped from No. 1 to No. 5.

UCLA jumped back into the No. 1 slot after beating Southern Cal in the Big Ten tournament on Sunday. The Bruins handed the Gamecocks their first loss of the season on Nov. 24.

South Carolina is ahead of UConn, despite losing badly to the Huskies on Feb. 16.

In the latest NCAA tournament projections, ESPN projects South Carolina as the No. 1 overall seed.
