South Carolina women’s basketball has dropped two spots to No. 6 in the AP Top 25 and in the USA TODAY coaches poll.
The Gamecocks (23-3, 11-1 SEC) picked up their second loss in the last eight days on Sunday, falling badly to UConn at home, 87-58.
The loss snapped a 71-game long home win streak that dated back to 2020. It was the worst home loss since 2008, when South Carolina also lost by exactly 29 points also to UConn.
Coach Dawn Staley‘s squad fell to Texas on Feb. 6, who beat LSU on Sunday and is now No. 2 in both polls. UConn went from No. 7 to No. 5 after its big road win.
UCLA was undefeated until Thursday night when it picked up its first loss of the season to Southern Cal. The Bruins beat the Gamecocks on Nov. 24, the first of their three losses. Now Notre Dame is No. 1 and UCLA is No. 3
South Carolina has four more games to close the regular season, beginning with Arkansas on Thursday (7 p.m., SEC Network) at home.
