Wisconsin basketball is holding strong as a No. 4 seed in USA TODAY’s latest bracketology update.
The Badgers are up to 19-5 on the season and 9-4 in Big Ten play following a pair of victories last week: a 76-64 win over Indiana and 74-63 over Iowa. Those results push the team’s current winning streak to three games, following recent road slip-ups to UCLA and Maryland.
Wisconsin is also up to fourth place in the Big Ten standings, No. 12 nationally in KenPom and No. 15 in the NCAA NET Rankings. As the days pass, the team climbs closer and closer to a top NCAA Tournament seed.
The Badgers are the third highest-ranked Big Ten team in USA TODAY’s latest bracket, trailing only Purdue (No. 2 seed) and Michigan State (No. 3 seed). Other Big Ten teams in the projected field are Michigan (No. 5 seed), Illinois (No. 6 seed), Maryland (No. 7 seed), UCLA (No. 8 seed), Oregon (No. 9 seed), Nebraska (No. 10 seed) and Ohio State (No. 11 seed).
That total of 10 projected bids is the second-highest among major conferences, trailing only the SEC with 13. The argument over conference supremacy is unlikely to be decided until the Final Four is confirmed, as each of the conference’s best teams battle along the way.

Wisconsin is in a position to contend for the Big Ten title and a potential top-three NCAA Tournament seed if it can continue its strong form. The team has upcoming games against Purdue (Feb. 15), Illinois (Feb. 18), Oregon (Feb. 22), Washington (Feb. 25) and Michigan State (March 2). Minus Washington, each of those are projected tournament teams. Purdue and Michigan State are the other two top contenders to win the conference.
It’s reasonable to say that Wisconsin controls its destiny for both regular and postseason accolades. As fans are quick to point out, the program is still in search of its first Sweet Sixteen appearance since 2017.
